Understanding jewellery certificates.
Different jewellery pieces may use different certificates depending on material, product value, testing requirements and the purpose of the report. A certificate should always be considered together with the actual item and the issuing organisation’s testing scope.
What a certificate may confirm
- · Identification of the material or species.
- · Whether treatment has been detected within the report's scope.
- · Measurements, weight and, where applicable, grading.
- · Issuing laboratory, report number and date.
What a certificate may not confirm
- · Market value or resale price.
- · Aesthetic judgement of colour, texture or design.
- · Anything outside the specific testing scope of that report.
- · That the item currently in your hand is the exact item described — always match photos, measurements and report number.

Categories of certification
Pearl
Pearl reports commonly identify pearl type (cultured freshwater, Akoya, South Sea, Tahitian) and confirm whether treatment has been detected. Lustre, matching and orient are described alongside the report.
Natural Diamond
Natural diamond reports state the 4Cs and confirm natural origin. Report scope, laboratory and issue date should always be checked against the stone.
Laboratory-Grown Diamond
Laboratory-grown diamond reports must clearly disclose synthetic origin (CVD or HPHT). Lucky Jewellery discloses laboratory-grown origin in the product name, description and product page.
Finished Jewellery
A finished-jewellery report may describe metal, main stones and side stones as a set piece. Individual stone certificates may be issued separately when available.
Product-Specific Testing
Some pieces are tested for a specific purpose — for example verifying a treatment claim, matching a loose stone to a mounting, or confirming a repair.
Reading a report honestly
The item and the certificate together.
Report numbers can be verified with the issuing laboratory where such verification is offered. A different report format is not automatically better or worse — the testing scope, methodology and the piece itself matter more than the logo on the page.
